New $1.5 million community centre says ‘Yallo’ to Dalyellup families

  • Dalyellup families to benefit from new community hub
  • $1.5 million family centre part of strong McGowan Government investment in important community infrastructure for Bunbury
  • Centre to provide playgroups and other child-oriented programs and supports
  • The McGowan Government has provided $1.5 million for a community hub delivering family and child-oriented services and programs to Dalyellup.

To be delivered under ‘Yallo’ branding, which is inspired by a variant of hello, the new centre will provide opportunities for community networking and participation in activities that positively contribute to individual, family and community wellbeing.

The new community hub has already begun delivering services to local families.

Once it is fully operational, it will provide family and child-oriented services and programs, such as playgroups, parenting advice and other supports.

The services provided will be universal and available to all residents of Dalyellup, with a particular focus on young families with children up to five years of age, and youth between the ages of 12 and 18.

Two community service organisations – Milligan Community Learning and Resource Centre Inc and Investing in Our Youth Inc – have been awarded five-year service agreements for the delivery of services and programs as part of the Dalyellup community hub.

Funding for the community hub will be provided through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program, which is administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

The establishment of the hub has also provided an opportunity for the State Government to trial a ‘collaborative funding’ approach where local service providers were invited to bid collectively – rather than individually – to deliver community services.

As stated by Community Services Minister Simone McGurk:

“This new community hub will provide a welcoming space for families and people who live, work and play in Dalyellup.

“The contracted service providers will be working in partnership with the local community, the Shire of Capel and a number of State Government agencies in identifying emerging community needs and supporting locals.

“Dalyellup is one of the State’s fast-growing communities, so this new family centre will provide an important community hub for families in the area.”

Comments attributed for Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

“I’m proud to see this commitment for a new family centre in Dalyellup that I made during the 2017 election well on the way to being delivered for the local community.

“This is an important investment for Dalyellup, which is a fast-growing and tight-knit community with many young families.

“The family centre services that are already being delivered are doing a great job supporting the community, and I have no doubt even more local families will benefit once this centre is complete.”
