The Minns Labor Government is unlocking a new 20 hectare park to support housing growth in the heart of one of the most densely populated areas of Australia.
Works started today to transform Moore Park South into a new public parkland featuring an off-leash dog area, community sporting facilities, walking, running and cycling paths and trails, relaxation and picnic areas and more alongside a 12 hole golf course.
The community will be able to enjoy the first activations of the new park from mid-July, including an off-leash dog area with fencing and water supply, informal seating within the parkland, picnic areas, and a food and beverage offering available from the Golf House, including picnic boxes.
Importantly, a minimum of nine holes will be available to play for the entire period of construction, until the new 12-hole course is opened in 2027.
Alongside the great new open spaces, we’ve worked with Golf NSW and a golf architect to design a 12-hole golf course, expanded 90-bay driving range and create plans for an 18-hole mini golf course and putting and chipping greens.
The first works people will notice is fencing being installed between the golf precinct and parkland, and removal of the perimeter fence along South Dowling Street and Dacey Avenue for public access.
We’re prioritising park access by enabling entry to the park from Dacey Avenue, South Dowling Street, Reschs Bridge and Mount Steel between July and September.
Active recreation activities will also begin from July, including a run club organised out of the Toll House, with further events and programs to be rolled out to invite people to explore and make use of the new park.
Once complete the new public park will also include:
- a nature playground
- new pathways for running, walking and cycling
- a full-size community sports field
- multi-purpose sports courts and outdoor fitness equipment
- large areas of parkland for people to picnic and relax
- new amenities such as toilets, picnic tables and seating, space for food kiosks and lighting.
For the most substantial upgrades and additions to the park, construction is expected to be completed by 2028, while the new golf offer is expected to be completed in 2027.
The community will be kept updated on access changes at Moore Park South throughout construction.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:
“Today marks the start of a new era for Moore Park South as a backyard for thousands of people in one of Australia’s most densely populated communities.
“In just a few weeks the public will be able to enjoy access to a new off leash dog area, green open space and picnic area with more to come.
“Once complete the new Moore Park South will have something for everyone whether people want to play sport, enjoy time outdoors, walk the dog or play a round of golf.”
