Community members invited to help shape a more inclusive Darwin

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is calling on community members to help shape a more accessible and inclusive Darwin by joining its Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee.

Expressions of interest are now open for up to five community representatives to join the Committee, which provides advice and recommendations to Council on improving access and inclusion for people of all abilities living, working, studying and visiting Darwin.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee played an important role in helping City of Darwin create a more accessible and inclusive community.

“The Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee provides valuable advice and recommendations that help City of Darwin improve access and inclusion across the municipality, ensuring the needs and experiences of people of all abilities are considered in Council’s planning and decision-making,” Mr Styles said.

“We’re encouraging passionate people with professional expertise or lived experience of disability, whether personally or through a close family member, to put their hand up and get involved.

“By joining the Committee, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape programs, facilities and initiatives that make Darwin a more welcoming and inclusive city for everyone,” he said.

The Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee advocates, informs and guides Council on initiatives that improve access and inclusion across the municipality.

The Committee meets four to six times each year between February and November.

Community members can submit an expression of interest by completing the online application form at darwin.nt.gov.au/community/programs/access-and-inclusion
