The new ACT Health Centre at Duntroon was officially opened today by the Assistant Minister for Defence, the Hon Andrew Hastie MP, and will provide high quality health care in a modern, well-equipped facility to Defence members in Canberra and the surrounding New South Wales region.
The $40 million ACT Health Centre is part of the Australian Government’s more than $250 million dollar investment in new and upgraded health facilities across 13 Australian Defence Force (ADF) sites nationally.
Assistant Minister Hastie said the new ACT Health Centre provides holistic and best practice health care to ADF members posted in and around Canberra, ensuring they are fit to fight, fit to work, and fit for life.
“The health and wellbeing of our Defence personnel is key to our operational capability and these upgraded facilities will enhance the quality of life of individuals, their families and the broader community,” Assistant Minister Hastie said.
“The Duntroon health centre delivers integrated primary health care services, dental services, mental health care, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and pharmacy, as well as an 18-bed ward for low dependency inpatient care.”
The new health centre will be able to support approximately 6,700 ADF members across the ACT and surrounding New South Wales region, including members undergoing training at the Australian Defence Force Academy, the Royal Military College-Duntroon and the Australian Defence College at Weston Creek.
There are 185 highly skilled and committed staff working at the health centre including military personnel, public servants and contracted health professionals providing high quality health care.
“The new ACT Health Centre is a demonstration of the Morrison Government’s commitment to providing the very best in healthcare and rehabilitation services to meet the needs of our ADF personnel,” Assistant Minister Hastie said.
Assistant Minister Hastie thanked the staff at the ACT Health Centre for their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The staff provided COVID-19 testing services to the local Defence community and administered over 15,000 vaccine doses to Canberra-based ADF members and Australian Public Service and Australian Signals Directorate personnel.
