New Ambassadors Offer Encouragement for Women and Girls to Stay Active

The City of Ballarat has appointed its second round of Ambassadors to the Active Women’s and Girls Ambassadors Program since 2018.

Re-Launched in August, the Active Women’s and Girls Program encourages both girls and women of all ages to get active. As part of the selection process for new Ambassadors, the City advertised for community members with a passion and interest in female sport and active recreation who were motivated to help pave the way for women and girls’ involvement.

The role of the Ambassadors is to inspire, motivate and support other Ballarat Active Women and Girls to not only get physically active, but to feel confident about stepping into leadership roles in their sports clubs or active groups, and to empower equitable participation and champion positive role modelling.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney congratulated the four Ambassadors who will use their own skills and experience in active recreational and female sporting arenas to help empower, motivate and inspire the Ballarat Active Women & Girls brand.

“This is an important step in the development of our Strategy which aims to remove barriers that may be constraining women and girls’ involvement in sport or physical activity, either as leaders or participants,” he said.

The four key pillars identified for the Ambassador Program – participation, culture and environment, infrastructure and media action – align with the vision and goals identified in the Active Women and Girls Strategy 2018-2021.

The Ambassadors have been appointed for a 12-month period. Due to such high volume of applications for this year’s program, the active women and girls program team has created a three year succession plan. This will give more Ballarat women and girls equal opportunity to potentially be involved as a future ambassador with continued engagement through the Ballarat Active Women’s Network, facilitated by the City of Ballarat and Sports Central.
