Former Director of Public Prosecutions Adam Kimber SC has been appointed to the District Court, Attorney-General, Vickie Chapman, announced today.
“With more than two decades as a prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, (ODPP) Mr Kimber is an experienced criminal lawyer and advocate,” Attorney-General Chapman said.
“In his time at the ODPP, as prosecutor, then Deputy Director and Director, he prosecuted a number of high profile and complex matters.
“He has extensive trial and appellate experience, and has regularly appeared before the South Australian Court of Criminal Appeal and the High Court of Australia.
“More recently, he has worked as a Barrister at Edmund Barton Chambers, appearing in the District and Supreme Court, as well as the South Australian Employment Tribunal, the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and the Coroner’s Court.”
Mr Kimber’s appointment to the District Court will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Barry Beazley in April.
“Judge Beazley has served in the District Court with distinction since 2005, and I thank him for his commitment to our legal sector,” Ms Chapman said.
“I would also take this opportunity to congratulate Adam Kimber on his appointment.
“I look forward to seeing him serve on the bench with distinction.”
Ms Chapman said Mr Kimber would begin his time on the bench next Monday, August 10.
