Great progress is being made on the construction of a new $2.39 million boardwalk in Townsville’s Central Park.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the project remained on-time and on-budget, with construction due to be complete by the end of this month.
“This project is another piece of the puzzle to revitalise the city and connect all the major precincts, such as Palmer Street and our new stadium precinct, together,” Cr Hill said.
“The new boardwalk will provide a vital new link between the central business district, Palmer Street and Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
“I am really looking forward walking along the new boardwalk with other supporters as we make our way to the stadium to cheer our Cowboys to victory.”
The 440-metre boardwalk will run from Victoria Bridge along the waterfront to Lowths Bridge.
As well as constructing the boardwalk, JMAC Constructions is undertaking improvements of the revetment wall along the creek. The project is expected to support up to 20 jobs
Cr Hill said the new boardwalk complemented other projects happening around the stadium including the Townsville Waterfront Promenade and the new Reid Park Active Transport Bridge.
“Through these three projects Council is activating our waterfront and connecting our city like never before,” Cr Hill said.
