Avoca’s sporting clubs have access to a brand-new minibus to ensure players and supporters can travel safely to and from matches and events thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions program.
Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne and Minister for Road Safety and the TAC Jaala Pulford today announced that the Avoca Sports & Recreation Committee has purchased the new bus with $60,990 from the Labor Government.
The Avoca Football Netball Club will be the first of the town’s sporting groups to hit the road in the new 12-seater bus this weekend as part of the Bulldogs’ participation in the inaugural Towards Zero round of local football and netball.
The new bus will also provide better transport connections for members of the Avoca Cricket Club, Avoca Tennis Club and the Pyrenees Pétanque Club.
The purchase of the minibus will make it easier for club members to get to and from games and will help encourage more people to get involved with their local sporting clubs.
As part of the inaugural Towards Zero round this weekend, football captains will wear a zero on their jumpers while netballers and junior players don Towards Zero socks.
The round will involve more than 1,000 clubs across the state and will promote road safety to the almost 400,000 people involved in grassroots regional and metropolitan football and netball thanks to the TAC’s partnership with AFL Victoria.
