New classroom block opens at Victoria Park Primary School

  • Two-storey classroom block to meet growing enrolments
  • $7.1 million redevelopment includes new rooftop playground
  • First-class science classroom to be complemented by a $25,000 science resource grant
  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today officially unveiled an impressive new classroom block at Victoria Park’s oldest primary school.

In 2019, the State Government allocated $7.1 million for a new building at Victoria Park Primary School.

The two-storey building has 10 new classrooms, built to replace transportable classrooms, and allows all students to be accommodated on the school site.

Five general learning areas, an activity area and a staff car park are located on the ground floor. Another five classrooms and a rooftop playground, designed in collaboration with school staff, are on the first floor of the building.

The project includes a redevelopment of the school oval, new external play area and

    resurfacing of hardcourts.

Victoria Park Primary School was established in 1894 and is one of the oldest schools in the region. The school currently has 466 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and provides a broad curriculum including specialist physical education, music, science and Japanese teachers.

Designed by Zuideveld Marchant Hur and built by Crothers Construction Pty Ltd, the project supported 25 local jobs.

Planning for a science classroom conversion will commence in 2022. A $25,000 resource and equipment grant will be provided to the school as part of this program.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“Victoria Park Primary School exists on a very small site and the new building has provided the school community with state-of-the-art facilities that honour the long history of the school as well as preparing the students for the future.

“As the first school built in the suburb, it has played a major role in community life and has an outstanding reputation for working closely with families to achieve results for all students.”

As stated by Victoria Park MLA Hannah Beazley:

“The school population has increased significantly in recent years and more than half of the students come from a language background other than English.

“The diversity of Vic Park’s Primary School is a wonderful strength of the school and our broader community.

“Quality public education is critical to our area and this impressive redevelopment gives local students the very best learning opportunities, and staff the very best teaching opportunities.”
