New dates announced for Championships

Save the date! The CFA/VFBV State Championships will be held in Mooroopna from 27-28 March 2021.

New dates announced for Championships

The new dates have been announced after CFA made the decision to postpone the 2020 Championships due the coronavirus.

This major event, billed as a celebration of CFA, will bring the Rural Senior and Junior competitions together with the Urban seniors over the one weekend for the first time.

There will be new women’s only events, a new aggregate trophy for appliance events, and about 70 Urban and Rural brigades marching in the Torchlight Procession.

A range of activities will also be available amid the carnival-like atmosphere including a night cinema, children’s entertainment, onsite community market, interactive corporate display, and food and refreshments.

Acting Executive Director Volunteers and Capability Peter O Keefe said the good news was that a lot of the planning and preparation for the event was already complete.

“There’s been an impressive body of work that has already been completed by our D22 host committee and Volunteer team that we can build on for 2021,” Peter said.

“The 2021 event will be significant as it the first time in many years that we will come together as a volunteer organisation.

“It’s a terrific opportunity to demonstrate our skills and teamwork, to come together again in a spirit of comradery after a difficult 2020, and to put on show the breadth of what CFA has to offer to ourselves and to community.

Peter believes the event provides CFA people with the opportunity to reconnect with the Championships and see what they have to offer brigades.

“There is an increasing number of appliance-based events, there is space for women’s teams to make their mark in one and two-person marshall events and the rural program is full of events that mirror our fireground practices today,” he said.

“But competition is not the only outcome. This is a wonderful opportunity to build sustainability in our organisation as well as contribute to the health and wellbeing of our people.

“I urge you all put Mooroopna as your destination for the last weekend in March 2021 and join in the celebration of CFA.”

CFA’s Junior Urban State Championships will be held in Horsham on the last week of February 2021.
