Parents and carers of twins and triplets can connect and share about the unique joys and challenges of raising multiples when a new support group launches in Mildura next month.

The Multiples Support Group is a free Mildura Rural City Council initiative and will be led by a qualified Maternal and Child Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant.

The Group’s first session will be held on Monday 1 May at the Mildura Sporting Precinct.

Community Health and Wellbeing Portfolio Councillor Troy Bailey said the focus and structure of each session would be guided by the needs and wishes of attendees.

“The goal with this new group is to create a safe, supportive community where parents and carers of multiples can connect, share and learn from one another,” Cr Bailey said.

“Participants will have the benefit of meeting with our experienced Maternal and Child Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant Margie Carrigan, who has been instrumental in getting this group started.”

As a proud mum of grown-up twin boys, Margie understands that having multiples brings endless joy and its own unique set of challenges.

“There are lots of great online resources about having twins and triplets, but meeting face-to-face with other parents and carers is a very valuable opportunity.”

“When I was living in Queensland I was fortunate to be part of a multiples group which was fantastic, and that’s why I am so passionate about creating this new group.”

Margie said she was excited to bring families with multiples together and create a supportive, local network, where parents and carers with children of all ages are welcome, along with their little people too.

While there will be no set structure to the monthly group sessions, Margie said she hoped they would provide practical and emotional support, covering everything from feeding and mealtimes to sleep, settling and a sense of camaraderie.

“Raising a child is joyous and beautiful, but it can also be isolating and exhausting, and that only intensifies when you’re raising multiples,” Margie said.

Multiples Support Group sessions will take place at Mildura Sporting Precinct on the first Monday of each month, starting on Monday 1 May, running from 9.15am to 11.15am.
