The McGowan Government is investing in much needed new accommodation for residents of the Quadriplegic Centre in Shenton Park.
The residents will be accommodated in a new 20-unit high care supported accommodation facility to be built and managed by MSWA, with a $9 million McGowan Government grant for the construction.
MSWA provides vital support and services to people living with neurological conditions, including spinal cord injury.
The new supported accommodation facility will provide long-term supported accommodation options, in a homely environment, for adults with neurological conditions, with 24-hour care provided onsite by MSWA care support workers.
The facility will accommodate long-term residents on land within DevelopmentWA’s Montario Quarter estate, which will then be transferred under a conditional freehold to MSWA from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.
This outcome is the result of comprehensive consultation with each resident to develop a ‘Personal Plan’ for their future support and accommodation needs.
Residents were given the opportunity to exercise informed choice and control over their future living arrangements, with consideration given to where and who the residents wanted to live with and what personal care, therapy, equipment and other supports they require.
Detailed planning will commence soon, and it is expected that the new accommodation will be completed in 2023.

“This new fit-for-purpose centre will help ensure residents will have their needs met now and into the future.

“As the site of the former Shenton Park Rehabilitation Hospital, the design of Montario Quarter places a strong value on health and wellness.
“Residents of this new supported accommodation facility will be able to enjoy the landscaped parklands, future retail and hospitality precinct and transport connectivity of this six-star Green Star urban village.”
