New mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic for ACT

The ACT Government will open an additional Mass Vaccination Clinic next week, providing greater access to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination for eligible Canberrans.

Last week, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) announced an update to its recommendation that Pfizer is now the preferred COVID-19 vaccine in adults under the age of 60 years.

The Commonwealth Government has confirmed that the ACT will be receiving an increase of Pfizer vaccines over the coming weeks. This puts the ACT in a good position to open more appointments to eligible Canberrans.

The new Clinic will be located in the Canberra Airport precinct and will begin administering vaccines from Tuesday 29 June.

From this afternoon, ACT residents aged 50-59 years can book for a Pfizer appointment at the Mass Vaccination Clinic at Garran or the Canberra Airport.

We are continuing to encourage all ACT residents who are eligible from either a Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccination to plan ahead and make an appointment as soon as possible.

Getting vaccinated is one of the important ways that Canberrans can protect themselves and their family from the most serious health risks posed by COVID-19.

While you may not be able to get vaccinated immediately, we are encouraging all ACT residents who are eligible to plan ahead and make an appointment now.

People can book their appointment:

  • Online – using the ACT Government booking system MyDHR
  • Phone – Calling the ACT Government COVID-19 Vaccination line on 02 5124 7700, 7am to 7pm daily. People can request a call back and will not lose their place in the queue.

All ACT residents aged 50-59 years old who were booked for an AstraZeneca vaccine at an ACT Government clinic have now had their appointments rescheduled.

People who have contacted the COVID-19 booking line for information over the last few days will be contacted directly by ACT Health to book their appointment.

It is expected the Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Canberra Airport will deliver 1500 vaccines per week in the first few weeks. This will increase as more people become eligible for their second vaccine dose.

The Mass Vaccination Clinic at Calvary Public Hospital Bruce will continue to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine for ACT residents aged 60 years and over.

We ask all Canberrans to remain patient with our teams as we work to implement these changes and bring more appointments online.

As the COVID-19 vaccination program rolls out across Australia, we will continue to respond to updates and changes with a calm and measured approach.

Our priority remains providing Canberrans with access to a safe and effective vaccine program.
