Detectives from the Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following a serious two-vehicle traffic crash in Bundaberg last night, 31 July.
It will be alleged around 4.49pm, a red Mazda 3 sedan collided with a white Toyota Hilux at the intersection of Woondooma Street and Branyan Street.
The alleged driver of the Mazda, a 36-year-old Bundaberg West man, fled the scene on foot but was located and arrested a short time later. He was transported to Bundaberg Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, a 64-year-old Avondale man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
A 36-year-old Bundaberg West man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, fail to supply the necessaries, evasion offence, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, driver uninsured vehicle, and driving unregistered vehicle.
He is expected to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court today, 1 August.
Witnesses, particularly anyone with relevant vision of the Mazda prior to the crash, are urged to contact police.
