New Northern Territory Police Online Management Information System

NT Government

The new police case management system, SerPro, has been rolled out to Police across the Territory.

Police have been using SerPro to manage and record policing data such as custody management, investigations, intelligence, property management and forensics.

SerPro allows Police to capture and use data more efficiently, which will help to minimise the amount of time taken up with administrative tasks.

This new system replaces PROMIS, which was inefficient, outdated and made it harder for Police to do their job. PROMIS commenced in 1999 and was overdue for replacement.

The transition from PROMIS to SerPro was successful, with more than 1200 Police receiving extensive face to face training coupled with online modules prior to the go live date.

This training prepared officers and administrative staff from Police, the AFP, AGD, SAFENT and other agencies to be ready for the changeover of systems.

As a result in the rollout of SerPro – and the improved data collection available with the new system – comparisons with data collected under the old system is not currently available.

Crime stats for each month will be made available but the comparison with the year prior will not be due to the issues in data reconciliation between the two systems.

The statistics that will be published monthly are similar in terms of geographic data and offence types.

Over time, the new SerPro time series data will provide us with the opportunity to provide more detailed reporting to improve safety for Territorians.

Quotes attributed to the Minister for Police Brent Potter:

“Through integration and expanded digital functionality, SerPro will increase information available to police, reduce data input into multiple systems and automate data linkages. This will enhance productivity and assist police, leading to improved public safety”.

“Territorians every month will still get crime statistics and data. We will still know what trends are occurring, and what is happening. The data will still be going live.

“We’re focused on reducing crime and that’s why we’ve already strengthened our Banned Drinker Orders, established the Territory Safety Division and have the co-responder model in place.”
