Another Townsville park is getting a makeover as installation work starts on new playground equipment at Bluewater Park.
Following consultation with the community, Townsville City Council will upgrade the playground with modern equipment including two climbing towers, three slides, a flying fox, climbing ropes, swings, soft-fall flooring and a carousel.
Deputy Mayor Mark Molachino said the new equipment would further enhance Bluewater Park’s reputation as a destination park for Townsville parents and children.
“Bluewater Park is a popular day spot and rest area for residents and visitors, and I have no doubt more people will use the area once work is complete,” Cr Molachino said.
“Council maintains more than 320 parks across the Townsville region, and we know how important they are for helping residents maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Council is also upgrading the irrigation system at the Bluewater oval.
Cr Molachino said the upgrades were welcome news for the Bluewater community.
“The oval is a well-used community asset, and residents use it for markets, shows, sporting events and more,” he said.
“It also serves a wide range of uses for emergency services, including as a space to land a helicopter.
“Close to 3.5km of irrigation piping is being installed across the oval to help Council keep it green and well maintained.”
Work at the park is expected to finish by the end of April, weather and conditions pending.
Council received $247,000 to install new playground equipment and $343,000 for upgraded irrigation from the Australia Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
