Minister for Police Mark Ryan today joined Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll to officially open the brand-new Arundel Police Hub.
Minister Ryan said the $11.5 million facility was a win for the Gold Coast.
“The future of policing is agile, flexible and borderless and this Police Hub is well-positioned to maximise safety and response times for the Coast,” Mr Ryan said.
“It’s centrally located with easy access to both the northern and southern corridors of the Gold Coast via the M1, allowing for quick response times across the city.”
Mr Ryan said construction of the new facility created local construction jobs on the Gold Coast.
“When we invest in our police, the whole community benefits,” Mr Ryan said.
“Community safety is the Palaszczuk Government’s number one priority.
“We will continue to invest in the infrastructure and facilities our police need to keep us safe.”
Commissioner Carroll said the new facility was a state-of-the art, modern building.
“This is an exciting moment for the Gold Coast District, as the new facility is designed to support police operations across the region,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“The new complex includes a dayroom with 104 workstations and a purpose-built Dog Squad facility.
“Various operational areas will be located within the facility, including the Gold Coast Rapid Action Patrol Group (RAP).”
Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said she was pleased to see the facility officially opened.
“The Queensland Police Service is truly world class and our hardworking officers deserve the best,” Ms Scanlon said.
“The Palaszczuk Government continues to deliver better services for a safer Gold Coast.”
The construction tender was awarded on May 8, 2019, with Gold Coast RAP and Dog Squad commencing operations from the facility on January 9.
