The NSW Department of Education is inviting applications for two programs aimed at encouraging more teachers to steer their careers off the beaten track and into the state’s regional, rural and remote public schools.
The programs, which are run by the department’s School Leadership Institute are:
- The Mid-Career Transition to Teaching program, which attracts mid-career professionals into a Master of Teaching degree to become a high school Mathematics, Science or Technology or Applied Studies teachers, and
- FASTstream, which targets teaching graduates and experienced teachers with leadership ambition and talent to accelerate their career journey.
This year, the programs are focused on encouraging teachers to make the tree change into regional NSW.
Education and Early Learning Minister Sarah Mitchell said there is also a focus on providing targeted support, mentoring, and professional development for the best and brightest teachers with aspirations to fill school principal roles in the future.
“Having met last year’s participants, I’m really excited that another 50 places are now available, and I really encourage teachers and teaching graduates with a strong drive to become a school leader to apply for the FASTstream program,” Ms Mitchell said.
