What is measured
NZAC summarises several monthly indicators, including spending, unemployment, job vacancies, traffic volumes, electricity generation, business outlook, and manufacturing activity.
Why it is important
NZAC is a broad measure of economic activity. It provides government policymakers, markets, and the general public with a more timely and frequent indicator of economic activity, which complements a more definitive measure, such as GDP (gross domestic product).
