Nine charged with traffic, property offences in Tamworth by Operation Western Mongoose

Nine people have been charged this week following investigations into a number of traffic and property-related offences in the state’s north east.

Operation Western Mongoose was established in April, to investigate property offences, the theft of vehicles during break-ins from homes throughout Oxley Police District.

This week, officers executed four search warrants at homes in Tamworth, and seized mobile phones, electronic equipment, a knife, a mountain bike and jewellery.

Following inquiries, officers arrested eight youths, all aged 15 and 16. They were charged with various property and traffic offences and are due to appear before children’s court at a later date.

A 13-year-old boy was also arrested and dealt with under the young offenders Act.

Additionally, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a home on Tingira Street, Tamworth on Wednesday 4 May 2022.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance without consent of owner and will appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 9 May 2022.

Investigations will continue under Operation Western Mongoose.

The operation consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team, Detectives, Crime Prevention Unit within Oxley Police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Command, Youth Command and Dog Unit.
