No time for complacency with worsening economic outlook

The Liberal Government cannot rest on its laurels off the back of the latest CommSec report.

While the quarterly report ranks Tasmania in front of other states overall, the data paints a gloomier picture for our economy.

The report highlights that annual growth rates have fallen for equipment investment, construction work and dwelling starts.

Just last week Deloitte Access Economics’ quarterly Business Outlook report demonstrated that the state’s domestic economy faces a series of headwinds with the lowest growth in the country and a decline in dwelling investment.

Coupled with cost of living pressures like soaring rents and electricity prices, and with inflation set to outstrip wages until 2024-2025, the Liberal Government needs to get its priorities right.

The Liberal Government should be tackling the state’s cost of living crisis rather than focusing its energies on building a $750 million stadium in Hobart.
