Nominate now for Consumer Protection Awards 2021

Are you a consumer champion or do you know one? If so, then I would urge you to consider nominating for the Consumer Protection Awards 2021.

Every day across Western Australia there are many individuals, organisations, businesses and media professionals working tirelessly to advocate for the consumer rights of others, many of whom are considered vulnerable.

These unsung heroes often receive little recognition, which is why the annual Consumer Protection Awards are an important opportunity to highlight their incredible achievements.

With nominations for the CP Awards 2021 now open, submissions are invited for an individual or organisation that has contributed to raising community awareness of consumer rights and safety as an advocate, educator or in another relevant role.

A new online submission tool this year makes it easy to enter and there are four categories to choose from, three of which are named after prominent past advocates Rona Okely, Richard (Dick) Fletcher and Ruby Hutchison, while the Kidsafe WA category focuses on promotion of product safety and injury prevention for children.

Winners will be presented with a trophy and cash prize by the Commerce Minister, before being further recognised with their names engraved on a perpetual shield.

The 2020 winners, which were announced at a ‘virtual’ event on Facebook due to COVID-19 restrictions, were Executive Director Sharryn Jackson who oversees 28 community legal centres; not-for-profit organisation Indigo Junction for its work in providing homelessness services; Red Nose for creating a safe sleeping product for babies; and journalist Callum Hunter who reported on scams.

Nominations for the 2021 Awards close 11.59pm on Monday 30 November 2020 – so don’t be shy about nominating someone you know or putting your own name forward. Winners will be announced at a presentation luncheon on Tuesday 20 April 2021.
