Nomination deadline extended for the 2025 Ballina Shire Australia Day Awards

Nomination deadline extended for the 2025 Ballina Shire Australia Day Awards

Ballina Shire Council is giving the community some extra time to nominate in this year’s Ballina Shire Australia Day Awards.

Nominations have been extended to Tuesday 12 November 2024.

Ballina Shire is filled with ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Every day, individuals across our community respond to road crash rescues, serve warm meals to those in need, march against domestic violence, care for wildlife and coach teams to victory.

These remarkable individuals may be humble and quiet achievers or passionate and courageous figures known to many. What unites them all is their commitment to our community, inspiring us and making Ballina Shire a better place to live.

“We want to celebrate the individuals and groups who make a remarkable impact on our shire. But most importantly, we want to thank them for all that they do,” said Tracy Lister, Manager Communications and Customer Service.

In 2025, the Ballina Shire Community Awards have introduced a new ‘Local Hero’ category, honouring an individual who demonstrates innovation and enterprise, whether through professional work or volunteer efforts.

Additionally, the age criteria for the awards have been refined to better reflect our community: Young Citizen of the Year nominees must now be under 25, and Senior Citizen of the Year nominees aged over 65.

These awards celebrate the people who make Ballina Shire such a vibrant place to live. If you know someone who goes above and beyond, nominate them now and let’s recognise their extraordinary contributions to our community.

Categories include:

  • Local Hero (open age)

Honour a trailblazer making in impact in their field.

  • Young Citizen (Under 25 Years)

Recognise young achievers making a difference.

  • Senior Citizen (Over 65 Years)

  • Volunteer of the Year (open age)
