Nominations for 2019 Public Education Awards now open

The community is being asked to put forward the names of dedicated and inspiring professionals who are contributing to making our public schools and preschools world-class, with nominations for the 2019 Public Education Awards now open.

Awards will be given out in 10 categories this year which includes a ‘Teacher of the Year’ category for secondary, primary and early years.

The 10 winners will receive $10,000, while 20 runners-up will receive $2,000 to go towards professional development.

Awards ambassador Eddie Betts is continuing his commitment to being part of this fantastic program that recognises the individuals and teams helping to improve the learning outcomes of children and young people in public education.

Eddie will be encouraging students, parents and the wider community to nominate an outstanding and dedicated person or team working in public education, both in teaching and non-teaching roles, who they believe deserves recognition.

Education Minister John Gardner encouraged people to nominate the education professionals they feel should be recognised.

“Achieving our ambition to deliver a world-class education requires the combined effort of our schools, preschools and diverse statewide team,” said Minister Gardner.

“The awards enable us to highlight the many individuals who lead and influence positive change in educational practice and support services.

“The professional development that finalists and winners experience reaches beyond their own practice as they share it with their school, preschools and education community as a whole.

“I encourage everyone to nominate that ultimate professional or team they know working within the public education sphere that deserves recognition.”

Awards ambassador Eddie Betts is excited to be involved again in 2019.

“I am excited to be the Ambassador for the Public Education Awards again in 2019,” said Mr Betts.

“The dedication, passion and leadership in public education that is recognised through this program is truly inspiring.

“My aim is to encourage everyone to get around their education community, and to show how much they appreciate the individuals and teams working hard to support and build a successful future for all South Australian kids.”

Nominations are open until Friday 31 May. Finalists will be revealed in August and the overall winners will be announced at a ceremony in October.

You can also visit the nomination stalls at Westfield Marion on the weekend of 11-12 May and Elizabeth Shopping Centre on Saturday 25 May.
