Nominations Open For 2024 Good Neighbour Awards

Shellharbour City Council is encouraging the community to nominate someone special for this year’s Good Neighbour Awards.

National Neighbour Day is held on the last Sunday in March each year, with Council celebrating the campaign through its Good Neighbour Awards.

The awards promote well-connected and resilient communities, recognizing residents who reach out, support and care for the people in their neighbourhoods.

Award categories include Good Neighbour of the Year, Street of the Year, and Children’s Drawing Competition, with a prize pool of approximately $1200.

People who nominate someone will also be in the draw for a $100 Visa gift card.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said nominating someone was the perfect way to thank them for being a great neighbour.

“Building connections between residents within neighbourhoods strengthens communities, helps us to feel safe and connected, and provides a sense of purpose,” Mayor Homer said.

“Even the simplest things are appreciated – checking in and having a chat, taking out the bins or feeding the pets. The support that good neighbours can provide is priceless.

“We can all work to create belonging by focusing on inclusion and connection, making others welcome, and building respectful relationships with those around us,” he said.

Shellharbour City Council is proud to be recognised as a “very neighbourly organisation” by the Neighbour Day Organisation.

Nominations are for Shellharbour residents only and must be received before 5pm on Friday 22 March 2024, with the winners announced in April.
