Police are appealing for assistance from the community after a mother and daughter were assaulted by a man on a street at Pyrmont earlier this week.
About 8.20pm on Wednesday (1 July 2020), a 50-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter were walking along Allen Street, Pyrmont, when they saw a man walking towards them.
Police were told the man approached and punched the girl in the face before the pair attempted to run away, and the man chased them.
The man then attempted to assault the woman and when she tried to record the incident with her mobile phone, the man took the phone out of her hand.
After the woman screamed for help, the man dropped the phone and ran from the scene. He was last seen running west on Allen Street.
The girl suffered swelling and soreness to her face, but did not require medical treatment, while the woman was physically uninjured.
Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended a short time later and commenced an investigation.
Initial inquiries revealed the man was dropped on Allen Street in a white older model sedan – possibly a Mitsubishi.
As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV vision of a man and a vehicle and are appealing for information from the community.
The man is depicted as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his late 40s, between 180-190cm tall, of solid build, and unshaven with thick dark eyebrows. He is seen wearing a blue hooded jumper, light grey tracksuit pants and a baseball cap.
