NSW police arrest man after taser deployed

A man has been arrested after an altercation with police in Surry Hills early this morning.

About 1am (Sunday 15 September 2019), police were notified by the security of a licensed premise on Oxford Street that a man had been involved in a dispute and was possibly in possession of a weapon.

Officers attached to Surry Hills Police Area Command attended and observed a man walking along Oxford Street.

When officers approached the man, it is alleged he ignored police direction, resisted arrest and reached into his pants, resulting in the deployment of a taser.

The 46-year-old was restrained and upon searching the man, officers located a 30cm kitchen knife, a number of credit cards in the name of another person and a small amount of drugs, believed to be methylamphetamine.

The man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and found to be in breach of current bail conditions.

He was charged with armed with intent, goods in custody, possess prohibited drug, custody of a knife in public place, resist officer in the execution of duty and breach of bail

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 15 September 2019).
