A man has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly walking through the street with a knife, possessing drugs, and assaulting police in Sutherland last night.
Police were called to the intersection of Linden Street and The Grand Parade about 7.45pm (Thursday 22 August 2019), after reports of a man carrying a knife.
Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and located the man walking along Linden Street allegedly carrying a knife, before he was arrested at gunpoint.
The 29-year-old man was found to be allegedly in possession of prescription medication, heroin, and a drug implement after being searched by police.
While being directed into a police caged truck, the man allegedly assaulted two police officers, who were uninjured.
He was taken to Sutherland Police Station, and later taken to Sutherland Hospital for suspected intoxication.
It will be alleged he attempted to escape while being treated in the ambulance, however was restrained.
He was released and returned to the police station, where he was charged with resist officer in execution of duty, assault officer in execution of duty (x3), escape police custody, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance (x2), possess prohibited drug (x2), supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension, and wield knife in a public place.
Police will also allege he was involved in an armed robbery at a Sutherland home earlier in the night, and was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, and destroy or damage property.
The Cronulla man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Friday 23 August 2019).
