NSW police assist woman deliver baby girl at Kelso

Police have assisted a woman as she gave birth to a baby girl in the state’s Central Tablelands last weekend.

About 5am on Sunday (18 October 2020), officers attached to Chifley Police District responded to reports a woman was in labour at a home in Kelso, near Bathurst.

They attended and assisted the woman, who gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Scarlet, shortly after they arrived.

The officers continued to provide assistance to the woman and baby until medical professionals arrived and took them to hospital for monitoring.

“I never thought I’d ever be called upon to deliver a baby in a situation like that; it was very special, a real once in a career job,” Senior Constable Sara Bramley said.

“I was relieved when the midwife and paramedic arrived, and I knew that mum and bub were on their way to hospital.

“You never know what’s going to happen on Bathurst 1000 weekend.”
