NSW police charge four with drug supply at Sydney music festival

Three men and woman will face court after being charged with drug supply at a music festival at Sydney Olympic Park.

The Midnight Mafia Music Festival was held at Sydney Showground, between 4pm until midnight yesterday (Saturday 11 May 2019).

A large police operation was conducted involving officers from the South West Metropolitan Region, with assistance from drug-detection dogs.

A total of 272 people were searched during the operation, resulting in 32 people being arrested and charged with drug possession, while eight were issued drug criminal infringement notices (CINS).

A 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arrested after being found in possession of 26 MDMA capsules and cash.

During a subsequent search of a vehicle parked outside the event, officers allegedly located 50 MDMA capsules and the couple were taken to Auburn Police Station.

The Blacktown man was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

The West Wollongong woman was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Both were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 12 May 2019).

A 24-year-old man was found in possession of 30 MDMA capsules and cash.

He was arrested and charged with supply prohibited drug and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

A 22-year-old was found in possession of 29 MDMA capsules.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug.

The pair were taken to Merrylands Police Station and were granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court next month (Tuesday 11 May 2019).

In addition to the drug related arrests, a 38-year-old man was found with $41,000 in cash. Police arrested and charged him with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 12 May 2019).

During the event, 165 people sought medical treatment with nine people taken to hospital by NSW Ambulance paramedics for further treatment, six of those for drug-related health issues.

South West Metropolitan Region Operations Manager, Detective Superintendent Jason Weinstein, said those intent on bringing illicit drugs into these events will be caught, charged and put before the courts.
