A man has been charged after allegedly being found with more than 2kg of heroin while travelling in a taxi in Sydney’s Inner West last week.
Acting on information, officers from Inner West Proactive Crime Team stopped a taxi travelling on King Street, Newtown, about 11.50am on Friday 30 July 2021.
Officers spoke with a man, aged 27, who was the sole passenger in the rear of the taxi, before searching the vehicle.
They allegedly located and seized two clear vacuum sealed bags containing brown powder, which was later confirmed to be 2.2kg of heroin with an estimated potential street value of between $500,000 and $600,000.
The Bondi man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug – commercial quantity.
He was also charged with not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 – COVID-19, for allegedly being outside his area without a lawful reason.
The man was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 31 July 2021, where he was formally refused bail to appear in Newtown Local Court on Thursday 7 October 2021.
Investigations are continuing.
