A man has been charged after being arrested by an off-duty police officer in the Royal National Park yesterday.
Police will allege that about 1pm (Sunday 18 August 2019), an off-duty senior constable was riding a bicycle on the Ululla Falls track, when he had a near collision with a motorcycle travelling on the same track.
The officer rode to the Waterfall entrance to the track, and flagged down the motorcycle rider.
The pair spoke, before the motorcycle rider attempted to ride away, with the officer taking hold of the handle bars to stop him.
The rider allegedly attempted to break the officers grip by bending his fingers back, and then continued to resist as a physical altercation ensued while the officer attempted to restrain the man.
The officer restrained the man, who then allegedly tried to run away, and was restrained again.
Police were contacted, before officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and arrested the 25-year-old man and took him to Sutherland Police Station.
He was charged with assault officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, common assault, and a number of offences under the National Parks and Wildlife Regulations.
The Jannali man was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 22 August 2019.
