NSW police charge man after fail to stop crash at Wollongong

A man will face court today charged following an investigation into a crash in Wollongong earlier this month.

About 11.30am on Wednesday 9 September 2020, a blue Ford Territory and a black BMW collided at the intersection of Corrimal and Burelli streets.

The BMW was pushed into the intersection and the Ford hit a pole. Both cars suffered extensive damage.

The Ford driver allegedly fled the scene on foot.

The BMW driver, a 23-year-old woman, was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital with back injuries.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District Target Action Group (TAG) arrested a 30-year-old man on Barnes Street, Warilla, about 10.30am yesterday (Wednesday 23 September 2020).

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, drive while disqualified, not give particulars to other driver and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

The man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 24 September 2020).
