NSW police charge man after firearm found in caravan near Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged after allegedly being found in possession of a firearm and cannabis near Wagga Wagga.

After receiving information, officers from Riverina Police District attended a caravan parked at Kohlhagens Reserve at Yarragundry about 8am today (Tuesday 8 September 2020), and spoke to the male occupant.

Following inquiries, officers allegedly located 17 cannabis plants and a loaded firearm concealed under a camp chair during a search of the caravan. These items were seized for forensic examination.

The 56-year-old man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with possess prohibited plant, cultivate prohibited plant, possess loaded firearm public place, possess unregistered firearm, possess shortened firearm, possess ammunition without holding license and not keep firearm safely.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 9 September 2020).
