NSW police charge man after gold, silver, and prohibited drugs seized in Sydney CBD

A man will face court today charged after police seized more than $400,000 of methylamphetamine from a unit in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.

Earlier this month, officers attached to Sydney City Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs in the Sydney CBD.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators – assisted by officers from Central Metropolitan Operation Support Group (OSG) – executed a search warrant at a unit on Bathurst Street, Sydney about 7.30am yesterday (Tuesday 23 August 2022).

During a search of the property, police allegedly located and seized more than 600g of methylamphetamine – with an estimated potential street value of $400,000 – gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), $16,000 of gold bullion and $9,000 of silver coins, jewellery, and cash. All seized items will undergo further forensic examination.

A 48-year-old man was arrested after returning to the property. He was taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug – large commercial quantity, supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity, six counts of deal with property proceeds of crime, and possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance.

He was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Wednesday 24 August 2022).
