NSW police charge man after house fire and assault

A man has been charged following investigations into a house fire and assault at Rouse Hill earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to the home on Tallawong Road about 12.55am (Thursday 29 August 2019), after reports it was on fire.

Police have been told a resident of the home, a 54-year-old man, was at a neighbouring property when he heard his house was on fire, before attending and locating a man allegedly pouring accelerant on the home.

Police were called with officers from Quakers Hill Police Area Command attending.

They located the man allegedly assaulting a Fire and Rescue NSW firefighter at the rear of the property. Officers deployed OC spray, before he ran inside the burning home.

Officers removed the man from the home, before deploying a taser after he allegedly armed himself with a knife.

The 38-year-old man was subdued and arrested before being taken to Blacktown Hospital for treatment.

He was charged last night with break and enter house etc destroy etc property (damage exceeding $60000), assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and resist officer in execution of duty. He was also charged with outstanding matters including breach of bail, common assault x2 (DV-related), and an outstanding warrant.

He was refused bail via a bedside bail hearing, to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Monday 2 September 2019.
