A man will face court following the seizure of firearms and explosives in the state’s Central North at the weekend.
As part of a proactive rural crime operation, officers attached to Central North Rural Crime Prevention Team with the assistance of investigators from Central North Police District, conducted a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) at a home on Cannonbar Street, Nyngan, about 3.45pm on Sunday (7 June 2020).
During the search, officers located and seized, a .22 hornet rifle, a .22 semi-automatic rifle, rifle scopes, two magazines, ammunition, detonator cord, explosives, a crossbow, cannabis, a flick knife and stripped copper wire.
Police will allege in court that several items seized during the search were stolen from rural properties.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and taken to Nyngan Police Station where he was charged with 10 offences;
- acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order
- acquire prohibited firearm-subject prohibition order
- acquire firearm – subject to prohibition order
- acquire firearm part – subject to prohibition order
- not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
- not keep firearm safely-not prohibited firearm
- possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit

- handle explosive/precursor without authorising licence
- possess prohibited drug.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court yesterday (Monday 8 June 2020), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday 11 June 2020.
Central North Police District Commander, Superintendent Andrew Hurst, said the seizure is another example of NSW Police disrupting rural crime in local communities.
“Local police work alongside the Rural Crime Prevention Team to target all areas of rural crime,” Supt Hurst said.
“We encourage all our farmers and landholders to report all rural crimes as soon as possible to help achieve these positive results.”
