A second man has been charged following an investigation into a public place shooting in Sydney’s south-west last month.
Just after 9pm on Sunday 28 November 2021, police responded to reports of a shooting in the vicinity of Townsend Street, Condell Park.
On arrival, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command located a white Toyota Yaris – with a number of bullet holes – which had been involved in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Townsend Street and Manahan Street.
Police were told the occupants of the Yaris – aged 37, 17, 17, 16 and 12 – had allegedly been shot at by a man while driving in the area a short time before the crash.
No one was injured as a result of the shooting or the crash.
A crime scene was established, and the vehicle was seized, both of which were examined by specialist forensic police.
Detectives commenced an investigation into the shooting, which they are treating as targeted.
A 20-year-old man was charged on Monday 29 November 2021 over his alleged involvement in the shooting. He remains before the court.
Following further inquiries, a second 20-year-old man was arrested about 7.30am today (Thursday 16 December 2021), after a search warrant was executed at a home on Golden Stave Way, Berala.
Police seized a mobile phone and cannabis, which will undergo further examination.
The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, possess loaded firearm public place, and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court today.
