A man wanted for an alleged domestic violence offence has surrendered to police following a tense four-hour stand off on the NSW South Coast.
About 4.30am yesterday (Sunday 30 September 2019), a 27-year-old woman presented to Shellharbour Hospital with significant facial injuries.
About 12.45pm, police attended a house at Myrtle Way, Barrack Heights, to speak to a man regarding the injuries the woman sustained earlier that day.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District interacted briefly with a 37-year-old man who allegedly threatened them before fleeing by foot.
Police made numerous attempts to locate the man, before receiving information that he had returned to the premises about 2.45pm.
Police returned to the location to speak to the man, who initially refused to cooperate and again allegedly threatened police.
Police had reason to believe that the man may be in possession of a firearm. At this time, negotiators and officers from the Tactical Operations Unit attended.
About 6.30pm, the man surrendered without incident and was arrested, before being taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
During a search of the home police located various firearms parts.
He was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, two counts of intimidate police and breach of firearms prohibition order.
Police will allege that during an argument the man pushed the woman to the ground. When she got up it is alleged he headbutted her, striking her jaw.
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 30 September 2019).
