NSW police charge man after wounding another man with bow and arrow at Wollongong

A man has been charged after another man was allegedly wounded by a bow and arrow near Wollongong.

About 4.15pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 August 2022), officers attached to Wollongong Police District were notified after a 19-year-old man presented to Wollongong Hospital suffering a stab wound to the chest.

He was later taken to St George Hospital for further treatment.

Police attended a unit on Spearing Parade and executed a crime scene warrant.

Following inquiries, police attended a unit complex on Heaslip Street, Coniston, and attempted to speak with a 22-year-old man before he fled on foot into a nearby unit.

The man refused to leave the premises, with additional police resources deployed to assist.

Following negotiations, officers arrested the man inside a roof cavity without incident about 9.10pm.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with reckless wounding and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court later today (Thursday 18 August 2022).

Police will allege in court the older man was visiting a premises on Spearing Parade where he allegedly fired an arrow from a compound bow, which then hit the younger man to the chest.
