A man and woman have been charged, and police are searching for another man, after a police car was allegedly rammed in the state’s Murray River region yesterday.
About 1.45pm (Monday 23 August 2022), officers attached to Murray River Police District’s Proactive Crime Team attended a home on Ebden Street, South Albury, to conduct inquiries regarding a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Upon arrival, police observed two men enter a black Holden Cruz sedan which was parked in the driveway. It will be alleged the driver reversed into a police vehicle several times, while officers were in the vehicle. They were uninjured.
A male passenger then fled the scene, leaving in a blue Hyundai station wagon.
The driver of the sedan – a 34-year-old man – then allegedly crashed into a garage, causing substantial damage, before he fled on foot. He was arrested a short time later.
A woman, aged 36, was located in the sedan and also arrested. Police seized number plates in the vehicle believed to have been stolen.
The pair were taken to Albury Police Station, where the man was charged with an outstanding warrant for firearm and theft offences, as well as:
- Use offensive weapon in company to prevent detention – serious indictable offence,
- Destroy or damage property,
- Custody of knife in public place – subsequent offence, and,
- Driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.
He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Tuesday 23 August 2022).
The woman was charged with one count of each of passenger not disclose driver’s/other passenger’s identity, and goods suspected stolen in/on premises (not motor vehicle).
She was granted conditional bail to appeal in Albury Local Court on Wednesday 14 September 2022.
The officers were not injured, and their vehicle sustained minor damage.
Inquiries to locate the driver of the blue Hyundai station wagon continue.
