NSW police charge man and woman with break and enter, car theft and escape custody at Goulburn

Police have charged a man and woman following investigations into a house break-in where a vehicle was stolen in Goulburn today.

Officers will allege a man, aged 30, and a woman, aged 33, broke into a home on Abbey Road, Goulburn about 1.15am today (Friday 5 April 2019) while four occupants slept inside.

It alleged the pair stole numerous items including a wallet, handbag, and keys to a Holden utility.

They fled the premises in the ute and made their way to a service station on Clinton Street where they allegedly used a stolen credit card to purchase food and cigarettes.

The residents of the home woke at 4.50am (Friday 5 April 2019), to discover the break in and their vehicle missing.

They reported the matter to police at The Hume and an investigation commenced.

About 7.30am today, officers attended a home on Chisholm Street, Goulburn, where they arrested the couple.

While waiting for a police vehicle to transport the pair, it’s alleged they ran from officers.

The man was arrested a short distance away, and the woman was arrested about 10.30am back at the Chisholm Street address.

The stolen vehicle was recovered in Knox Street, Goulburn. It had sustained fire damage to the interior.

The pair were taken to Goulburn Police Station where the man was charged with aggravated break and enter, take and drive conveyance, malicious damage by fire, escape lawful custody, fraud and drive while disqualified.

He was refused bail and will appear in Goulburn Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 6 April 2019).

The woman was charged with aggravated break and enter, taken and drive conveyance, escape lawful custody and fraud.

She was given bail and will appear in Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 15 May 2019.
