Detectives have charged a man over his alleged involvement in the storage of stolen motor vehicles used by criminal networks across Sydney.
Last month, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad established Strike Force Gillwinga to investigate an alleged carjacking and conspiracy to murder another man at North Sydney on Saturday 14 August 2021.
The following day (Sunday 15 August 2021), police executed a search warrant at a garage in Morden Street, Cammeray, where specialist forensic officers thoroughly examined the location.
Subsequent inquiries by strike force detectives uncovered a criminal syndicate involved in the subletting of garages, which police allege were used to store stolen motor vehicles used in illicit activities.
So far during the investigation, police have charged a 31-year-old Granville man. He remains before the courts.
Following further inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant at a home at Wentworthville at 7am yesterday (Wednesday 29 September 2021).
During the search, officers seized documentation, electronic devices, and a machete, which will undergo further forensic examination.
A 19-year-old man was arrested and taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment to a head injury
A 45-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station, before being conveyed to Westmead Hospital for further assessment.
Two male senior constables attached to Raptor Squad were treated at the scene for hand injuries, while a third male constable was treatment for an injury to his leg.
Later that evening, the 19-year-old man was released from Westmead Hospital and taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with seven offences including;
- Deal with identity info to commit etc indictable offence,
- knowingly facilitate organised car rebirthing activity (x3),
- assault officer in execution of duty,
- resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and,
- participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
Police will allege in court that the man leased the Cammeray garage, which housed stolen vehicles used in the attempted murder of another man in North Sydney last month.
It will be further alleged the man used a fraudulent identity to rent other garages in Westmead and Parramatta.
He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Thursday 30 September 2021).
The woman has since been issued a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) for two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.
She is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 17 November 2021.
Investigations under Strike Force Gillwinga are continuing.
