Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad detectives have charged a man over the alleged attempted drowning of a toddler in Sydney’s south west.
Last month, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 25-year-old woman and two-year-old girl had been physically injured and abused by a man known to them.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 24-year-old man at a home near Campbelltown about 9pm yesterday (Monday 13 July 2020).
The man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with attempt to drown person with intent to murder, four counts of common assault (DV) and two counts of destroy or damage property (DV).
Police will allege in court that the man physically abused the woman and child on numerous occasions between January and July this year.
It will be further alleged that during one incident the man attempted to drown the child while bathing her.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Tuesday 14 July 2020).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
