A member of an organised criminal network has been charged as part of ongoing Serious Crime Prevention Order compliance operations.
On Friday 18 December 2020, the Supreme Court issued a 35-year-old man with a Serious Crime Prevention Order (SCPO) following an application by the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad.
An SCPO may contain such prohibitions, restrictions, requirements and other provisions as the court considers appropriate for the purpose of protecting the public by preventing, restricting or disrupting involvement by a person in serious crime related activities.
After identifying several suspected breaches as part of ongoing inquiries into compliance with SCPOs, officers attached to Raptor Squad executed a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) at a home in south-west Sydney just after 7am yesterday (Thursday 9 September 2021).
During a subsequent search of the home officers identified a mobile phone allegedly containing two encrypted messaging services.
The man was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with one count of contravene serious crime prevention order.
He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court yesterday (Thursday 9 September 2021).
Police will allege in court that the man had contravened his SCPO by using usernames or passwords in contravention to the order and by having encrypted social media applications installed.
