NSW police charge man over fatal crash at Riverwood

A truck driver has been charged following investigations into a fatal crash in Riverwood today.

About 8.20am (Wednesday 27 November 2019), emergency services were called to the eastbound lanes of the M5, near Belmore Road, after a Volvo Prime Mover, a Mazda 6, a Hyundai i30, and a Volkswagen Polo collided.

A passenger in the Mazda, a 10-year-old boy, died at the scene.

A 13-year-old girl, travelling in the same vehicle, was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital suffering fractured ribs and head injuries. She remains in a stable condition.

The Mazda driver, a 31-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and underwent mandatory testing at hospital.

The Hyundai driver, a 35-year-old woman, suffered a fractured wrist, while the driver of the Volkswagen, a 26-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to hospital for mandatory testing and treatment.

The truck driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was then taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving (occasioning death) – 1st offence, negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), and cause bodily harm by misconduct – in charge of motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 28 November 2019).
