NSW police charge man over Hebersham shooting, Smithfield incident

Strike Force detectives have now charged a man over an incident at Smithfield this morning.

Detectives from Mt Druitt Police Area Command formed Strike Force Wailelle to investigate the shooting of a man in Bletchley Place, Hebersham, about 2.40pm last Sunday (20 March 2022).

A 39-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for gunshot wounds to his leg and shoulder before being taken to Westmead Hospital. He remains in hospital where is reported to be in a stable condition.

In a separate and unrelated incident this morning, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to Barton Street, Smithfield, shortly after 3am (Sunday 27 March 2022), responding to reports of a fight in the street.

A 30-year-old man was arrested a short time later and was taken to Fairfield Police Station. A shotgun and a pistol were seized at the scene and were taken for further examination.

A perimeter was maintained in Smithfield until this afternoon, when a search warrant was executed on a home in Barton Street.

Following inquiries from detectives attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command, the 30-year-old man was charged with shoot with intent to murder in relation to the incident at Bletchley Place, Hebersham, on 20 March 2022.

In relation to today’s incident at Barton Street, Smithfield, detectives attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command charged the man with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority and two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court tomorrow (Monday 28 March 2022).
