A man has been charged over alleged pursuits and a crash in the state’s north overnight.
Just before 11pm (Friday 22 January 2021), police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore on Cynthia Wilson Drive at East Lismore, after recognising it had been involved in an alleged pursuit earlier in the evening.
A pursuit was initiated when the vehicle failed to stop; however, was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later the Commodore was located crashed into a fence on Rous Road at Goonellabah. The driver had fled the scene.
Officers from Richmond Police Area Command established a perimeter and commenced a search for the driver, with assistance from the Dog Unit.
A 30-year-old man was located and arrested nearby. During a search of the man, police located and seized cannabis.
The West Tamworth man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for mandatory tests before being taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with two counts of police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law); drive whilst disqualified; drive in a manner dangerous; and possess prohibited drug.
He was bail refused to appear at Lismore Bail Court today (Saturday 23 January 2021).
