NSW police charge man with drug offences, $70,000 seized at Newtown

A man has been charged with drug offences following a vehicle stop in Newtown last night.

About 7.40pm (Friday 20 May 2022), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – City East Sector, were conducting high-visibility patrols on King Street, Newtown when they stopped a blue Subaru BRZ for random testing.

The 30-year-old driver and sole occupant of the vehicle returned a negative result for alcohol. He allegedly tested positive for methylamphetamine.

A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed 37 grams of methylamphetamine and $70,170.

The man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with commercial supply of a prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug and deal with proceeds of crime less than $100,000.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 21 May 2022).
