Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad have charged a teenage boy over the alleged sexual abuse of a woman during an aggravated break and enter in the state’s north.
Just before 3am yesterday (Thursday 17 March 2022), officers attached to Richmond Police District responded to reports a woman was sexually abused by an unknown person who had broken into her home at Casino.
Police were told a 63-year-old woman –the sole occupant of the property – was asleep in bed when an unknown male entered her bedroom and threatened and sexually abused her, before fleeing through the back door.
A crime scene was established, and the woman was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment where she underwent a SAIK (Sexual Assault Investigation Kit).
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, in conjunction with Richmond Police District, established Strike Force Bacchante to further investigate the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, a 14-year-old boy was arrested at a home in Casino about 9.45pm yesterday (Thursday 17 March 2022).
A search warrant was subsequently executed at that address, where detectives seized various items relevant to the investigation, which will undergo forensic examination.
The boy was taken to Casino Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – people there, and two counts of sexually touch another person without consent.
He was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Friday 18 March 2022).
